Rule 802 Hearsay Rule

Hearsay is generally not allowed in court. This means you cannot repeat what someone else said outside of court to prove your point in a case.

There are exceptions to this rule, though. Other court rules and certain laws allow some out-of-court statements to be used as evidence. If a statement falls under one of those exceptions, a judge may allow it.
