Rule 921 General Provisions

If you are involved in a court case about parenting rights or responsibilities in Illinois, two sets of rules apply to you. The first set is found in Part A of this article. The second set is the rules in Part B, which is where this rule appears.

These Part B rules apply specifically to cases about parental responsibilities. This includes divorce cases filed under the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act, as well as parentage cases filed under the Illinois Parentage Act of 1984. Parentage cases are ones where the court needs to legally establish who a child's parent is.

If you are going through a divorce or a parentage case that involves decisions about your children, you need to follow both sets of rules, not just one.
