Rule 6.1207 Costs

When you win an appeal in Iowa, the person who lost usually has to pay the fees and costs connected to the appeal. This is the standard outcome, but it's not automatic in every situation. The court can decide to handle costs differently if it thinks that makes more sense for a particular case.

So if you're appealing a case, keep in mind that losing could mean you're on the hook for more than just the outcome of the case itself. You might also have to cover the appellate costs. On the flip side, if you win, you can generally expect the other side to pay those costs, unless the court says otherwise.
