Plain-English Summary (for reference only — not a substitute for the rule text above)
This summary is not the rule. The rule text controls.
This rule applies to people who want to take the Iowa bar exam. Before you can sit for the exam, you have to sign a sworn statement saying you genuinely plan to practice law in Iowa or in another state that uses the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE). This statement has to be signed in front of someone who is legally allowed to give oaths and who has an official seal, like a notary.
The sworn statement also has to name the clerk of the Iowa Supreme Court as your agent for legal paperwork in Iowa. This means that if you're ever involved in legal matters connected to your bar application or law license, official documents can be delivered to the clerk's office on your behalf. This makes sure the court always has a reliable way to reach you or process legal notices, even if you move or can't be found directly.
