Rule 1.1002 New trial defined

If a case has already gone through a trial and a verdict, report, or decision has been reached, a new trial means the court will look at the facts again. It's a way to redo part or all of the case when something about the first decision needs to be reconsidered.

This applies whether the original decision came from a jury verdict, a master's report (findings from a court-appointed official), or a judge's own decision.
