If someone files certain motions asking the court to reconsider a judgment (under rules 1.1003 or 1.1004) or files a petition under rule 1.1012, and they do it on time, the court can pause the case if it wants to. This means the court can stop things like collecting money owed or enforcing the judgment while it decides what to do with the motion or petition.
The judge gets to decide whether to grant this pause, and can also set conditions on it. Nothing about this happens automatically. The court has to actually order the stay, and it can choose whether to stop everything or just part of the case.
For someone waiting on a court decision, this matters a lot. If you win a judgment and the other side files one of these motions, the court could freeze your ability to collect what you're owed until the motion gets sorted out. On the other hand, if you're the one asking the court to reconsider, you can request this pause so the other side can't enforce the judgment against you while your motion is pending.
