Rule 1.202 Public bond

If someone posts a bond that's meant to protect the public or specific people, and something goes wrong that causes harm, the person who got hurt can sue over that bond. This applies even though the bond was originally given to a government body, an official, or someone else, not directly to the person who ends up suing.

In simple terms, bonds are often set up as a safety net. For example, a business or official might have to post a bond as a condition of doing certain work or holding a certain position. That bond exists to protect people who might be harmed if things go wrong. This rule says that if you're one of the people the bond was meant to protect, and you suffer harm because the terms of the bond were broken, you have the right to file a lawsuit in your own name to seek compensation.

The main exception is if another law or rule specifically says this doesn't apply in a certain situation. Otherwise, you don't have to rely on the government or official who originally received the bond to take action. You can pursue the claim yourself.
