Rule 1.222 Transfer of interest

Sometimes a person or company involved in a lawsuit sells, transfers, or gives away their interest in the property or issue being fought over while the case is still going on. This rule says that doesn't stop the case. The lawsuit keeps moving forward, even if the original interest has changed hands.

When this kind of transfer happens, the court may allow new parties to join the case. This gives the person or company who now holds that interest a chance to step in and take part in the lawsuit, since they may now be the one with a real stake in the outcome.
