Rule 1.905 Exceptions unnecessary

When a judge makes a ruling in your case, you don't have to say a special phrase like "I except to that" to protect your rights. In the past, lawyers had to formally state their objection to a ruling right after the judge made it, or they might lose the ability to challenge that ruling later.

Under this rule, that extra step is no longer needed. As long as you brought the issue to the judge's attention in some way, such as through an objection or a motion, and the judge ruled on it, you've done what you need to do. You don't need any special follow-up statement.

This means people don't have to worry about using specific legal words after a ruling just to preserve their right to appeal later. What matters is that the court knew about the issue and made a decision on it.
