Rule 1.954 Judgment on the pleadings

If both sides have finished filing their pleadings (like the complaint and answer), a party can ask the court to rule in their favor right away without going to trial. This is called a motion for judgment on the pleadings.

This kind of request only works when the pleadings show there's really nothing left to fight about. The court looks only at what was written in the complaint, answer, and any other pleadings, and decides if one side should automatically win based on that paperwork alone. If the documents show that even taking the other side's claims as true, the law still favors the person asking for judgment, the court can end the case at this point.

This saves everyone time and money by avoiding a trial when the outcome is already clear from what both sides have put in writing. It's different from a motion to dismiss, which usually happens earlier before an answer is filed. Judgment on the pleadings comes later, after both sides have laid out their full positions in writing.
