Rule 16.101 Scope and applicability

This rule explains when Iowa's electronic filing rules apply. If a case starts after electronic filing became available in a county or in the state's appeals courts, these rules control how documents get filed. The rules also apply to older cases that get switched over to the electronic system.

The rule also clears up two smaller points. First, any comments written to explain these rules are just for understanding them better. Those comments are not official rules themselves and don't carry legal weight. Second, the rule gives the official short name people should use when referring to these rules in court documents: "Iowa R. Elec. P."
