Rule 5.105 Limiting evidence that is not admissible against other parties or for other purposes

Sometimes evidence in a trial is only fair to use in a certain way. For example, something might be okay to use against one person being sued but not against another person in the same case. Or a piece of evidence might be allowed to prove one point but not another point.

When this happens, a person involved in the case can ask the judge to limit how the jury uses that evidence. If someone makes this request at the right time, the judge must tell the jury exactly how they are allowed to use that evidence and what they cannot use it for.

This rule protects people from being unfairly judged based on evidence that does not actually apply to them or to the specific issue being decided. It keeps the jury focused on using each piece of evidence only the way the law allows.
