Rule 2.02 Form of Notice of Appeal, Court of Appeals

If you want to appeal a district court decision and your case doesn't qualify for a direct appeal to the Kansas Supreme Court, you need to file your notice of appeal with the district court, not the Court of Appeals. This notice has to use the same case caption (the heading with the case name and number) that was used in the original district court case.

Your notice of appeal also needs to follow the format set out in the judicial council form. It doesn't have to match that form word for word, but it needs to be close enough that it covers the same basic information and structure. This helps make sure courts and the other side in your case can easily understand what you're appealing and why.
