If a court paper or record gets lost or destroyed, someone can ask the court to replace it or restore it. This request is called an "application for restoration."

Not just anyone can make this request. It has to come from someone who was part of the original case, like a person who filed the paperwork or had it filed on their behalf. It can also come from someone who has a legal claim connected to that original party, such as an heir or someone who took over their legal rights.

The person making this request can't just say the paper was lost. They have to sign a sworn statement, called an affidavit, confirming that the paper or record really was lost or destroyed.
