Plain-English Summary (for reference only — not a substitute for the rule text above)
This summary is not the rule. The rule text controls.
Each district court in Kansas can create its own local rules for how cases are handled in that court. These rules have to be approved by most of the judges in that district, and they can't conflict with the main state civil procedure rules. Whenever a district court makes a new rule or changes an old one, it has to send a copy to the Kansas Supreme Court.
If a situation comes up that isn't covered by the main civil procedure rules, district courts are allowed to decide how to handle it on their own. They just have to make sure their approach still fits with the overall rules and with anything the Supreme Court has already set out. This gives local courts some flexibility to fill in gaps, as long as they stay within the boundaries set by state law.
