§ 60-801 Nature of mandamus.

Mandamus is a legal tool used to force a government office, court, board, corporation, or official to do something they are already required to do. It doesn't create new duties. Instead, it makes someone follow through on a duty they already have because of their job, their role, or because the law says they must do it.

This is often used when someone in an official position is refusing to act, or is dragging their feet on something they're legally required to handle. A person can ask a higher court to step in and order that official or entity to actually do their job. The court isn't deciding whether the duty is fair or reasonable. It's simply making sure the duty gets carried out as required by law.
