If someone is being held in custody and asks for a final decision on pending charges or a probation revocation, that request gets canceled if the person then escapes from custody. Once the escape happens, the request no longer counts, even though it was properly filed before.

In simple terms, an inmate can't ask for a speedy resolution to their case and then break out of custody while waiting for that resolution to happen. If they escape, they lose the benefit of that request. If they want a final decision on the charges later, they would need to start the process over again.
