Judges have the option to give potential jurors a questionnaire to fill out before a trial. This helps the court and the attorneys learn more about the jurors, like their background and views, before picking who will serve on the jury.
These questionnaires are kept private. Even though courts are usually open and their records can be requested by the public, juror questionnaires are an exception. The answers jurors give won't be released under the Kansas Open Records Act.
Courts don't have to create their own questionnaire from scratch. They can use one that closely matches a standard form created by the judicial council, which makes things easier and keeps the process consistent across different courts.
