I, Sec. 4 Actions on judgments of expired courts

If you have an old judgment from a court of limited jurisdiction that was issued before January 2, 1978, and that court no longer exists, you can't handle it the same way you would with a current court. Instead, you need to file a motion in district court to take action on that judgment. This applies to things like enforcing the judgment or asking the court to do something about it, but it does not apply to appeals.

When you file this motion, you also need to include a certified copy of the original judgment. This copy must be "attested," meaning it has been officially verified as a true and accurate copy of what the old court decided. Without this proof, the district court won't have the right paperwork to act on your request.

Basically, this rule exists because some courts stopped operating after changes to the court system took effect on January 2, 1978. Since those courts no longer exist, the district court now handles matters connected to their old judgments. The rule tells you exactly where to go and what to bring with you if you need to take action on one of these older judgments.
