14 Number of Documents Required

This rule tells you how many paper copies of court documents you need to file, depending on whether your case is in the Court of Appeals or the Supreme Court. Different types of filings need different numbers of copies. For example, a motion to transfer needs 10 copies for the Court of Appeals, while a prehearing conference statement only needs 1 copy for the Supreme Court.

The number of copies changes based on what you're filing. Briefs, motions for rehearing, and motions for discretionary review typically need 10 copies in the Court of Appeals but only 5 copies in the Supreme Court. Some documents, like certification of law questions, are only handled by the Court of Appeals, while others, like petitions for review of workers' compensation cases, only go to the Supreme Court.

The rule also explains that one of your copies has to be the "original." This original copy needs to be unbound, and any tabs you used to separate sections in your other copies should be replaced with blank pages in this one copy. This helps the court keep track of which copy is the master version among all the copies you submit.
