2.017 Completion of New Lawyer Program

If you want to become a licensed attorney in Kentucky through any of the admission paths listed in this rule, you have to finish the New Lawyer Program after you're admitted to the bar. This applies no matter which specific path you used to qualify for admission, whether that's through bar exam scores, reciprocity with another state, or another approved method.

The New Lawyer Program is a separate requirement covered under a different rule (SCR 3.640). Think of it as a mandatory next step after you pass the bar and get sworn in. You can't skip it or treat admission as the finish line. Completing this program is part of what it takes to actually practice law in the state, not just an optional add-on.

The note at the end just explains some history about how these court rules got renamed and reorganized over the years. It doesn't affect what you need to do. It's there for legal record-keeping purposes, not for the average person to worry about.
