100.09 Protecting the integrity of the mediation process

Mediators are responsible for keeping the mediation process fair and respectful. They need to encourage the people involved to treat each other with respect during the sessions.

At the same time, mediators have to watch out for anyone trying to abuse or misuse the process. If they see this happening, they should take reasonable steps to stop it. However, they still have to respect each person's right to make their own decisions during mediation. This means the mediator guides the process without taking over or controlling the choices that belong to the parties themselves.
