10.12 Preservation of error

If you want to appeal your case later, you don't have to repeat every objection in a motion for a new trial. As long as you already objected properly during the trial itself, that objection is saved for the appeal. You don't need to bring it up again afterward just to protect your right to raise it later.

This matters because it keeps things simple. If your lawyer objects to a ruling, an order, or jury instructions while the trial is happening, that objection is on the record. The higher court can look at it later without you needing to file extra paperwork asking for a new trial based on that same issue. It saves time and avoids requiring people to repeat themselves just to keep their rights protected.
