101 Scope

These rules explain how evidence works in Kentucky courts. If you're involved in a court case in Kentucky, these are the rules that decide what evidence can be used and how it can be presented.

There are some exceptions, though. Another rule, KRE 1101, spells out specific situations where these evidence rules don't apply. So while these rules cover most court proceedings in Kentucky, you'll want to check KRE 1101 to see if your situation falls into one of those exceptions.

When people reference these rules in legal documents or in court, they use the short name "KRE" followed by the specific rule number. For example, this rule itself would be cited as "KRE 101."
