7.020 Qualifications

If you want to run for a bar representative seat on one of these commissions, you have to meet a few basic requirements. First, you need to be a member of the bar association. Second, you must actually live in Kentucky. You can't run for this position if you live in another state, even if you're a member of the association.

There's also a rule about holding other positions at the same time. You can't serve as a bar representative if you already hold another public office, like an elected government position. You also can't hold any office in a political party or political organization. This keeps the commission focused on legal matters instead of politics, and it makes sure people running for these seats aren't juggling other official duties that could create conflicts.
