8.120 Expenses

This rule explains how judges get paid back for money they spend attending training programs. If a justice or judge goes to a judicial education program that is set up by the Administrative Office of the Courts, the court system will cover their travel and related expenses. These payments follow the standard travel rules used across the Court of Justice.

If a judge wants to attend a different kind of training program, one not sponsored by the Administrative Office of the Courts, the judge usually has to pay for it themselves. The only exception is if the judge gets approval ahead of time. This approval has to come from the Director of the Administrative Office of the Courts, and it happens through the manager of Judicial Branch Education.

In short, this rule sets the ground rules for who pays when judges go to training. Official programs are covered automatically. Other programs are only covered if the judge asks for permission first and gets it approved before attending.
