XIX App. C R. 5 Compensation

When a lawyer is placed on probation as part of a disciplinary case, someone is assigned to monitor them and make sure they follow the rules of their probation. This monitor can end up spending money while doing this job, like for travel or other expenses tied to keeping tabs on the lawyer.

The lawyer on probation has to cover these costs. The monitor doesn't pay out of pocket and get stuck with the bill. Instead, the lawyer being monitored is responsible for paying back any reasonable expenses the monitor runs up while doing the job.

If the lawyer doesn't pay these costs quickly, it can cost them their probation. Falling behind on these payments gives the court a reason to revoke probation entirely, which means the lawyer could face harsher consequences than what probation originally allowed.
