Art. 113 Pleading a statute or ordinance

When someone files papers in a juvenile or children's court case and needs to reference a law, they don't have to quote the entire law word for word. They can simply point to it by its official citation number, its title, or any other clear way that identifies which law they mean. This applies whether it's a Louisiana state law, a local city or parish ordinance, a law from another state, or a federal law.

If the case involves a local ordinance (a law passed by a city, parish, or other local government), the person citing it must give the court an actual copy of that ordinance. This copy gets filed with the other paperwork in the case so the judge and everyone involved can see exactly what the ordinance says.

This rule basically saves time and paperwork. Instead of requiring people to type out entire laws in their court filings, it lets them reference laws quickly and clearly. The only extra step is making sure the court has a physical copy of any local ordinance being used in the case, since judges may not have those as readily available as state or federal laws.
