Art. 1176 Application for court approval of adoptive placement; contents; filing

When someone wants to adopt a child through this process, they need to file a formal request with the court asking for approval to place the child with them. This request must be signed under oath, confirming that everything in it is true.

The request has to include some basic information. It needs the names, ages, addresses, jobs, and marital status of the people who want to adopt. It also needs to state when the child is expected to be placed with them, whether they are already related to the child in some way, and the child's name if it is known at that time.

This application must be filed with the clerk of court in the right location, which is determined by another rule (Article 1180) that spells out where adoption cases can be filed based on things like where the child or the adoptive parents live.
