Art. 1214 Permanency review

This rule makes sure adoption cases don't sit without attention for too long. If a judge has not made an early ruling (called an interlocutory decree) within six months after the adoption petition is filed, the court must hold check-in hearings every ninety days. These hearings continue until that early ruling finally happens.

The same kind of check-in process applies to the final adoption decree. If six months pass after the petition is filed, or six months pass after the early ruling, and the adoption still has not been finalized, the court must hold a hearing every ninety days. This continues until the adoption is officially completed.

In simple terms, this rule stops adoption cases from stalling out. It forces the court to keep checking on the case regularly so a child's adoption keeps moving forward instead of getting stuck in limbo.
