Art. 1219 Change of name

When an adoption through an agency becomes final, the court can officially change the child's name as part of the adoption decree. If the child's name is changed, the child's last name must match the last name of the parent who is adopting them.

This means the family doesn't need to file separate paperwork for a name change. It happens automatically as part of the adoption process, and the law makes sure the child shares the same last name as their new parent.
