Art. 1239.1 Reporting requirement; statistical availability

When a child's adoption is finalized in Louisiana, the court has to make sure the state's child welfare department gets certain basic facts about that adoption. This includes whether the adoptive parents are related to the child, how old the child was when placed in the home, how old the child was when the adoption became final, the child's gender and race, and where the child was placed. The department then uses this information to put together yearly statistics on adoptions across the state, including where children are being placed. These statistics are made public, so anyone can look at overall trends in adoption in Louisiana.
