Art. 1241 Change of name

When a child is adopted through a private adoption, the court can change the child's full name as part of the final adoption order. If the name is changed, the child's last name must match the last name of the adoptive parent.

This means adoptive parents have the option to give the child a new first, middle, or last name at the time the adoption is finalized. The only firm requirement is on the last name: if it changes, it has to be the same as the adoptive parent's last name. This helps make the child's new legal identity match their new family.
