Art. 1257 Change of name

When a stepparent or family member finalizes an intrafamily adoption, the judge can change the child's full name as part of the final court order. If the name is changed, the child's last name must match the last name of the adoptive parent.

This gives families a way to update a child's name so it matches their new family situation. The decision to change the name happens at the same time the adoption becomes official, so there's no need for a separate legal process to update the child's name afterward.
