Art. 1283.11 Expiration of interlocutory decree

When a court grants an interlocutory decree, that's a temporary or provisional order, not the final word on the case. This rule says that the people involved have two years to file a petition asking for a final decree. If nobody files that petition within those two years, the temporary decree automatically becomes void, like it never happened.

There's one exception. If someone can show the court a good reason why they need more time, the court can grant an extension. But without that extension, the two-year clock keeps running, and missing the deadline means starting over.
