Art. 1306.16 Procedure to register child support order of a foreign country for modification

If you want to change a child support order that came from another country (and it's not covered under the international Convention rules), you first need to register that order in Louisiana. This is the same registration process used for regular foreign support orders, following Articles 1306.1 through 1306.8.

You have some flexibility on timing. You can ask to register the order and ask to modify it at the same time, or you can register it first and file for modification later. Either way works.

If you do file to modify the order, you have to explain why. Your petition needs to clearly state the specific reasons you believe the support order should be changed. Simply wanting a different amount isn't enough. You need to give the court actual grounds for the modification.
