Art. 1309.2 Transitional provision

This rule explains when the new chapter's rules start applying to cases. If someone starts a case on or after the date this chapter takes effect, these new rules apply to them. This includes cases about setting up child support, figuring out who a child's legal parent is, or dealing with an existing support order or agreement.

It does not matter when the original support order, parentage decision, or agreement was first made. What matters is when the new court case or action begins. So if a person files paperwork to register, enforce, recognize, or change an old support order after the effective date, the new rules in this chapter will control how that process works, even though the original order might be much older.

In short, this rule is about timing. It tells courts and families which set of rules to use based on when they take action, not based on when the original support decision was made.
