Art. 1355 Stipulation to order of support

If a parent (or someone else who owes child support) agrees with the district attorney on how much support should be paid, the court can go ahead and issue a support order right away. This means the two sides can work out an agreement instead of going through a full legal fight.

The court does not need to wait for a criminal case to be filed before it can issue this support order. Normally, failing to support a child could lead to criminal charges under a separate law. But this rule lets everyone skip that step if the parent and the district attorney already agree on the support terms.
