Art. 1428 Notice of admission

When a minor is admitted to a treatment facility on an emergency basis, the facility's director has to tell the child's closest relative or another responsible person about the admission. This notice must be in writing and sent out as soon as possible after the child is admitted.

The facility also has to send copies of the emergency paperwork to the state's mental health office. Specifically, the physician's and coroner's emergency certificates must go to the nearest MHAS office within 72 hours of the child being admitted. This can be done in person, by email, or by fax.

These steps make sure that family members know what's happening and that state officials have a record of the emergency admission right away. This helps keep track of the minor's situation and keeps the right people informed quickly.
