Art. 1506 Procedure for punishing direct contempt

When someone acts out or breaks court rules right in front of a judge, like being disrespectful in the courtroom or refusing to answer a question, the judge can punish that person right away. This is called "direct contempt" because it happens directly in front of the court.

The judge does not have to hold a full trial for this. But the person still gets a chance to speak up and explain themselves before any punishment happens. They can offer a defense or give reasons why the punishment should be lighter.

After hearing from the person, the judge has to write up an official order. This order must explain exactly what the person did that counted as contempt, state that the judge found them guilty, and spell out what punishment they will get. This makes sure there is a clear record of what happened and why.
