Art. 1527 Venue

This rule explains where a case can be filed when a child is accused of breaking the law. The case should be started in the parish where the offense happened.

Sometimes an offense involves actions that happen in more than one parish. For example, part of the incident might happen in one parish while another part happens somewhere else. When this occurs, the case can be filed in any of the parishes where part of the offense took place. This gives some flexibility in deciding where the case gets handled, as long as it connects to a parish where something related to the offense actually occurred.
