Art. 1532 Transfers to courts exercising criminal jurisdiction

If a young person facing serious charges has the right to a jury trial but decides to give up that right, the juvenile court can go ahead and handle the case itself. The person has to make this choice knowingly, understanding what they are giving up.

If the young person instead chooses to use their right to a jury trial, the case does not stay in juvenile court. Instead, the court has to send the case over to a regular criminal court, since juvenile courts do not hold jury trials themselves.

In short, this rule decides where the case gets heard based on whether the young person wants a jury trial or not. Choosing a jury trial means the case moves to adult criminal court.
