Art. 1555 Certification of child's terminal status

Before doctors can stop medical care or treatment for a child under this rule, two doctors must first examine the child in person and put their findings in writing. One of these doctors has to be the child's attending physician, meaning the doctor who has been directly overseeing the child's care.

Both doctors must agree that the child's condition matches one of the specific situations allowed under Article 1554. This means one doctor's opinion is not enough. A second doctor has to independently examine the child and confirm the same diagnosis before any care can be stopped.

This rule exists to protect children by making sure a decision this serious is not made by just one person. It requires agreement from two medical professionals who have actually seen and examined the child, not just reviewed paperwork or test results from someone else.
