Art. 424.10 CASA; immunity

People who work with CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) are protected from lawsuits and criminal charges when they do their jobs honestly. This includes CASA volunteers, staff, directors, and employees. If they report suspected child abuse or neglect, help with an investigation, or take part in court proceedings, they can't be sued or prosecuted for doing that job in good faith.

This protection has limits, though. It does not cover someone who was actually involved in the abuse, neglect, or sexual exploitation of a child, whether as the main person responsible or as someone who helped plan or cover it up. It also does not protect anyone who makes a report they know is false, or who doesn't care whether the report is true or not.

Finally, the protection does not cover someone who shares confidential information they shouldn't have, if that happens because of serious carelessness or reckless behavior on their part. In short, CASA workers get legal protection for doing their jobs in good faith, but that protection disappears if they act dishonestly, recklessly, or are involved in wrongdoing themselves.
