Art. 440 Stay of proceeding; extension

When a judge sends a case to mediation, the judge can pause the court case while mediation happens. The judge will then check back on how mediation is going within 60 days of sending the case there.

If more time is needed, the judge can give an extra 30 days on top of that. This means the total pause can last up to 90 days before the judge checks in on the mediation results. This gives everyone a fair chance to work things out through mediation without the pressure of ongoing court deadlines.
