Art. 758 Advice of rights at appearance to answer petition

When a child has to appear in court to answer a petition, the judge must tell the child and the child's caretaker about their legal rights. This happens under Article 740, which covers things like the right to a lawyer and other protections the child and caretaker are entitled to during the case.

The judge only needs to explain these rights again if they were not already covered at an earlier hearing. So if the child and caretaker already heard this information before, the court does not have to repeat it. This rule makes sure that everyone involved understands their rights before moving forward, but it also avoids wasting time repeating information people already know.
