Art. 896.1 Alternative disposition

When a child is found to have committed an offense, the judge doesn't have to stop at the usual punishment options. This rule lets the judge also suggest that the child take part in a special pilot program, as long as the child qualifies for it. This program is set up under a different part of Louisiana law (Title 15, starting at R.S. 15:971).

This gives judges another tool to use when deciding what happens to a child after their case. Instead of only picking from standard options like probation or placement, the judge can point the child toward this extra program if it fits their situation. The child still has to meet whatever requirements that pilot program has before they can join it.
