Art. 954 Traffic violations adjudicated on citation; petition not required

If a child gets a traffic ticket, the court doesn't need a formal legal document called a petition to start the case. Instead, the ticket itself (a standard traffic citation) can be used to bring the case to court. This makes the process simpler for minor traffic offenses compared to other types of cases.

The ticket just needs to explain generally what the child did wrong. It doesn't have to go into a lot of legal detail. This citation also acts as a summons, meaning it tells the child when and where to show up in court.

The court can also require the child to bring a parent along to the court appearance. This ensures a parent knows about the situation and can be there to support the child and help handle the case.
