Art. 1311 Service of copy of exhibit to pleading unnecessary

If you attach a document to your court paperwork as an exhibit (like a contract or letter), you don't automatically have to send a copy of that document to the other side in the case. The paperwork itself gets served as usual, but the exhibit doesn't need a separate copy sent unless you specifically ask the court to require it.

This means the person filing the pleading has a choice. If they want to make sure the other party gets a copy of the exhibit right away, they need to say so in their filing and ask for it. Otherwise, the other party can still get access to the exhibit through normal court records, just not through automatic service.

In practical terms, this rule saves time and paperwork. It stops people from having to copy and mail every attached document every single time they file something with the court, unless there's a specific reason to require it.
