Art. 2130 Record on appeal; statement of facts

When you appeal a case, the court needs a written record of what happened at trial. This rule lets any party ask the clerk to have the testimony written down word for word. That written transcript then becomes the official record of what was said in court.

If both sides agree, they don't have to use a full word for word transcript. Instead, they can write up a summary of the facts together, as long as they follow the process laid out in Article 2131. This gives parties a faster and often cheaper way to create the record needed for an appeal, as long as everyone agrees on what the summary should say.
